THE BATTLE ROYALE OF MOE IS BACK !

bigger, bolder, better, and with more explosions ever than anywhere else - yeap, even twice more so than any other action-based series of this very season block, indeed. as always, summer will never be boring for us whenever there's seven arcs around. and with all that has been written here, dog days' has certainly lived much to the expectation we had for it so far, and hopefully this glorious momentum will last even further through the rest of the second season.

continuing from where the series has left back then, the plot and the story for this sequel here were still deeply rooted in the competitive all out battles between the friendly nations of biscotti and gallette, only later to be joined by a previously absent third force - the principality of pastillage - led by the hyperactive, yuri-pandering [?] motormouth loli squirrel princess couvre, best known among her peers and subjects [ including her irl fans ] for her penchant for dramatic and glamorous entry into a scene.

apart from the existing cast of characters [ which were already more than plenty enough to choose and love from ], dog days' saw the debut and inclusion of even more characters, effectively flooding it with way too much characters than a series could possible handle, while there's also some returning characters of whom weren't prominent enough within the the first season but are now given their long overdue limelight [ even overpowering some of the prominent mainstays ] they greatly deserve, which of course is absolutely fine and highly welcomed for us :3

just exactly as how the first season was, the overall look, art and designs for dog days were nice and decent at most yet highly adorable at best [ character designs were fantastic as always, being one of those primary elements that kept this series wonderful and awesome, nevertheless ], with the usual design inconsistencies being apparent every here and there. the animation aspect of the sequel however were highly outstanding and elegantly superb, more than we could ever wish for; it was extremely dynamic and fluid, ensuring that none of the action were lost so to ensure the utmost maximum enjoyment and satisfaction for all of its fans out there.

seriously, slice of life sitcoms has never been this superbly awesome since k-on !. and being one of the two most superior series this summer, there's absolutely no reason whatever for us to skip this series entirely. not a chance. any. and whether you like it or not, this sophomore season of yuru yuri definitely is one of the best, and the most gorgeously perfect series ever produced for 2012, for us that is.

now as with the initial season that precedes it, yryr
♪♪ is an absolutely fun and entertaining series to watch - mainly for the extra-delicious, finely exquisite interactions between its colorful cast of characters, the handful of verbal and visual gags and its overflowing comical moments [ our godly toshino kyoko never fails to storm the show with her absolute awesomeness ], all neatly packaged together for you to enjoy. also to further spice things up, you will get an outstanding amount of eargasmic voice works from its seiyuus - there's more than plenty enough for you to choose from w.

as with most other slice of life series out there,
yryr♪♪'s most ultimate key strength lies within its massive cast of characters, most [ if not all ] of them being provided with adequate enough appearance / airtime to fully flaunt their affections and jabs against each other while effectively developing and sharing both their personalities and quirks with us the audience. and before we forget it, any series with constant hints and mentions of yuri are considered awesome by default, according to our standards :3

apart from its winning cast of characters and its neverending flow of fine yuri and excellent comedies, the series were also best regarded for its outstanding look and highly impressive animation + visual presentation. both the art and its overall design were neatly preserved from the first season, topped with minor visual improvements to make it all greater. and not to mention yryr♪♪ streamlined and acutely moedorable character designs remained just as impressive as it was, much to our extreme joy ^w^ )/

HAREM IS POLITICS, YO

some of our team members here has [ and still is ] played the game before [ all thanks to kanda midori-san, sue-san and momose riyu-san, all three amazing cosplayers of whom has fully inspired us to pick the game up due to their excellent cosplay of satsuki, michiru and isara respectively ], and thus when the news broke that koichoco was to be adapted into anime we were all greatly jumping and celebrating in joy, of course :3

but our hopes and expectation later fell greatly as soon as we discovered that koichoco was to be handled by one of aic's subsidiary studios - the parent company itself was best known for its inconsistent focus in most [ but not all ] of their anime productions of late - among the most recent examples being mayoi neko overrun ! [ frankly speaking, aic broke our hearts greatly for their cruel so-called-'experimentation' over the series ] and amagami ss [ the latter of which started out really, really well but soon lost its track and fell off the cliff ].

rants aside, the anime take on koichoco opened well enough for us with very little complaint on the plot and story [ at times effectively reminding us of kujibiki unbalance, yet another highly related favorite series of ours ], although it did suffer minor inconsistencies every here and there [ the dramatic opening scene for example almost failed in securing a much proper connection to the rest of the story ]. nevertheless, koichoco's still good and mildly enjoyable to watch on mainly for the dramas surrounding its five leading heroines, as well for the splendid voice works by their respective seiyuus.

the background art was decent but still mildly tolerable enough for the eyes, yet they could've been given a much better treatment by the production team [ take hourou musuko or oreimo for example; both being aic's produces ] so to preserve in the reputation set by the game for the latter's lavish and outstanding visuals. anyway, the character designs however won our approvals best, all thanks to gouda hiroaki-sensei - the same exact designer who has previously graced amagami ss to our most extreme delight.

regardless of all those minor frustrations we had against the studio [ never will us become upset at the series :D ], koichoco will certainly be sitting on our summer watchlist until the very end of its airing, given that we're highly interested in seeing where the series will take itself and its fine, lovely heroines to :3

IT'S 'DEEPER™' THAN YOU THOUGHT :D

to begin with, our initial impression for the series was that kokoro connect [ kokoroco for short ] could possibly be the production of a-1 pictures [ having not checked which studio did it then ], only to be hit with a bat of surprise as we realize that it was the production of silver link instead - that particular studio which previously gave us baka to test to shoukanjuu, c3 and tasogare otome x amnesia, just to name a few, and is best known for its ability to shapeshift itself into any of those leading studios it desire so.

visual wise, kokoro connect bears an absolutely uncanny resemblance to the best-selling slice of life series k-on !, given the fact that the original light novel was illustrated by the highly regarded kyoto animation employee horiguchi yukiko-sensei [ under the alias of shiromizakana ], the character designer for k-on ! and much previously, lucky star [ mirroring kanzaki hiro-sensei's commitment for oreimo ], and further redesigned for television by akai toshifumi-sensei whose previous contributions includes sora no woto, the idolm@ster [ under multiple roles except for character design ] and kannagi [ as animation director ], just to point a few.

the plot so far was excellently intriguing and fully captivating much, as the story was told and unfold in such a neat and elaborative fashion that it kept us hooked in every single week for more revelation[s] to mystery be fleshed out into broader light. apart from that, its cast of characters were fun for us to observe, and we gotta write it here that we're simply in love with all 5 of the leading characters right off the bat.

also interesting to note was that silver link did a really great job with the overall visual presentation, as well as the animation aspect of the series - which for the most part of them felt just exactly as how it'd be would be should kyoto animation were to be the ones in charge of this series. the voice acting were just as mesmerizing themselves, particularly those of the female characters.

another surprise hit with our team this summer, nakaimo was originally ranked really, really low on our list [ having been listed in the medium priority section of rayneholde's watchlist; almost to the danger of being dropped entirely, +not to mention it was and still is absent at large from zange's watchlist ] but has recently caught up with the other summer series following episode 03 and 04, both of which has successfully reignited the interest in rayneholde.

an usual romcom fare with staple archetypical stock characters in store, nakaimo is best suited for the 'snack-y' filler role in between more captivating summer treats such as yuruyuri and dog days', as well as those summer juggernauts sword art online and tari tari, for example. and despite being generic in every sense of it, nakaimo certainly has its own charm which had us captivated enough to reconsider on re-enlisting it on our summer watchlist.

the story was decent at best, but its execution was fun and enjoyable at best. the characters for the best part of it were mostly adorable, fun, lively and energetic so much for us to fall for most of them from the get go. interesting to note was that the characters mostly start out as mild and reserved, but has since grown to become more proactive and bolder as the series progresses; quite a slight departure from how such series would usually grow and expand, there. the comedy are mostly laced with extremely suggestive fanservice at mildly tolerable level, well at least for us that is :3

being a series that was aimed directly at the moe niche, the overall visual presentation indeed were another highlight for the series. the art and design were simply neat and highly pleasing to the eyes, and we're so greatly in love with the color palette currently in use for nakaimo. aside from that, the same can be written for the character designs which we greatly saw as highly adorable and extremely befitting of the series.

YET ANOTHER ACID TRIP THIS SUMMER

probably the most random series this summer, even more so than the already trippy jintai which of course is weirder and more psychedelic-er [ ww ] however. also, be noted that full [ or at least, adequate ] understanding of the japanese culture is needed while viewing this series, or else you will certainly end up giving up on it right from the start for not understanding nor getting any sense out of the plethora of gags and jokes thrown at you mercilessly w.

still you may however do as how the series suggested; just watch the series for the cute girls. nothing more, nothing less lol.

so anyway, joshiraku is a self-aware series that was brought to us by the same j.c. staff's production team which gave us toradora, ookami-san to shichinin no nakamatachi and ano natsu de matteru [ just to name a few ], made apparent through the visuals and the character designs themselves, as well as the level of production quality offered which can be traced back to the three series mentioned beforehand. and that pretty much guarantee joshiraku's status as yet another j.c. staff production for us to firmly look forward into, that is.

as stated above, joshiraku is jam packed with random idle chatters and interactions between its primary characters which mostly require for us the audience to be adequately familiar enough of the japanese culture [ twice more crucial if you are to fully capture the sense of the extremely brief rakugo segments of the series ], and should you were already so then we highly assure that you will come to love the series as well as its unique taste of comedies without fail unless you have very little patience against highly verbal animes, of course :3

the ultimate key strength of the series lies within its cast of extremely quirky and highly moedorable characters, which are fully fun and interesting to watch and observe on, +not to mention it will certainly cost you almost zero effort to fully understand their personality and quirks as the anime production team has successfully fleshed them out for your very own convenience.

what would you do if you're trapped in a game with your life on stake, and the only way out is to complete the game without fail ? - push forward in desperation, of course. well at least for us, that is. that said, sword art online has been really successful in delivering the grim and tragic outcome of being so, as well as the overall feeling of being there in the game without us the audience having to sacrifice our very own lives for a glimpse of it w.

regarded as one of the juggernaut titles this summer, sword art online has plenty of what it takes for the series to secure the top spot on the list of most [ if not all ] anime watchers out there, as well as being able to live up to the hype it has been at the center of since the announcement of its summer debut then. simply put, the series is a gem in and out, and must definitely be given a check on should you're looking for something that would greatly impress you this summer.

the plot and story are very gripping and entertaining for us, not to mention it's been really easy for us to relate and put our own selves into it. also, the characters are mostly fun to observe and sympathize with, and that as well includes some of the episode-specific side ones such as the tragic sachi and the bubbly silica of the most recent episode, to say.

the art and animation quality were just as excellent and superb as a-1 pictures' productions of then - with lively fluid animations and eye-catching location designs, highly impressive overall visual aesthetics and fantastic character designs to back the entire series up as an overall masterpiece this summer.

well what more can we say, tari tari is one of a hell fun series with a bunch of interesting and exciting [ female ] characters at its core. but of course, at first it might taste a bit like a mixture of k-on ! and hanasaku iroha, especially since tari tari shares the exact same kind of plot device as the former, but soon after then the series would excellently built its own pace and goes its own path accordingly.

need for us to remind those who haven't checked this series yet that tari tari is being produced by p.a. works, the same exact studio which gave us hanasaku iroha and angel beats ! a couple of seasons earlier. that said, the art and animation quality was neat, superb and needless we say, stellar in every single aspect of it. also, the character designs [ especially the heroines ] might reminds you very closely of hanasaku iroha, and said impression would last even further into a couple of episodes of the series.

another defining aspect of tari tari which has really made it a fun and worthy watch this summer was the musical aspect of the series; the [ insert ] songs featured are fully mesmerizing and captivating for us, it made us crossing our fingers for singles [ or much better, songs collection albums ] to be released really soon. not to mention there's plenty of emotions [ from the characters themselves ] poured right into these songs which was what made them really shine on, so to speak.

definitely one of the best the summer block has to offer this year, tari tari is excellently guaranteed to put on a lasting smile on your faces should you're really into this kind of series, as well as the dramatic slice of life genre in general. given its outstanding execution and production values, the series is yet again another wonderful masterpiece from p.a. works, and hopefully it will continue forth the winning streak of which the studio has been pulling off since angel beats ! way back then.

TECHNICALLY THE LSD OF SUMMER

not to be fooled by its carefree look and feel, jinrui wa suitaishimashita [ or jintai, for short ] in essence is a cynical commentary on society and culture, with topics discussed so far encompassing consumerism and the modern visual culture [ the latter being considered a thing of the distant past, in-story ] - rather than being a fuwafuwa post-apocalyptic humanity re-establishment tale [ a la sora no woto ] as how we originally perceived it would be prior.

for the more casual fans of anime, jintai might be a bit hard for them to swallow and enjoy, especially since the series has been lacking too much in physical drama, while not to mention there's more than enough dialogue than most of them could possibly survive lol. still however, both of our team members here ended up loving this series very dearly, most thankfully for being just how oddly peculiar it was up until recent [ oh madoka, dat suicidal bread and those headless chickens ww ].

another crowning aspect of the series was its excellent voice acting by nakahara mai and sawashiro miyuki [ the latter sounded really rotten as a fujoshi ww ], as well as the main heroine's knack for sarcasm and cynicism for most of her screentime throughout the series. oh, and btw we also came to notice the presence of the same composer / artist who once did the ED for haibane renmei in jintai's very own ED; the latter which of course was automatically made of win.

both the art and the animation has been pleasantly good and consistent, although one shouldn't be hoping too much for the visual consistency to stay put with the rest of the series as this is aic we're talking about here. also, the overall art direction and visual design for the anime were filled with plenty of life and fine aesthetic every here and there, granted by the mild and warm yet lush pastel-ish palette in use.

MY NOBUNAGA-SAMA CAN'T BE THIS C- *shot*

yet another gender bendered take on the over-told legends of oda nobunaga, as well as another series that surprised us [ despite it has already been listed on our preliminary summer watchlist prior ] a lot for its ability to impress us greatly way beyond our initial expectation set for it. that, and who in their right mind could ever resist DAT ITOU KANAE [ serizawa fumino, matsumae ohana, akai ringo and saten ruiko, just to name a few ].

okay, so while our nobunaga-sama in sengoku collection was a badass wandering female daimyou with a really huge and rock solid attitude [ viva nobunaga ! ], our nobuna-cha, i mean, -sama here is more of an emotionally fragile daimyou but of course not without having half [ if not all ] of the same attitude as was with her said counterpart in sencolle. not to mention her constant burst into tsuntsuness [ spiced up even more with DAT ITOU KANAE ] has excellently made both her character as well as the series worth all of our time and attention spent for them x3

oda nobuna no yabou also stood out well for being one of the few history-based series that succeeds really well in telling its stories without boring its audience much, esp. those with little to zero interest in the history topic / subject itself [ tested and proven with some of our friends here ]. unlike sengoku collection [ which is still airing this summer ], oda nobuna no yabou sticks much closer [ if not entirely faithful ] to the actual historical events recorded during the sengoku period, albeit being retold with various alterations here and there.

the overall art and animation for the series were definitely good - if not fantastic, as expected much from madhouse studio - especially in regard to the animation which was fluid and captivating especially during key moments such as the battles and nobuna's tsuntsun antics with sagara. but still, what we've come to love the most when it comes down to the visual aspect of the series were its character designs, of which, frankly speaking, has greatly won our thumbs ups and approval.

binbougami ga ! in essence is a slapstick gag sitcom, made twice even more awesome with the return of the super-genki side of its leading seiyuu hanazawa kana - as the leading heroine sakura ichiko - aka the kurokami medaka of binbougami ga !, minus the latter's inhumane battle prowess lol. overall, the story and its bag of odd comedies [ slightly reminiscent of ben-to ] are quite welcomed for us, and we sincerely hope that the series would hold its forte until the end of its run.

the art style seen in binbougami ga ! [ once again ] is slightly reminiscent of ben-to, and stood very much well with our preference. it has a very strong shounen-esque taste and feel to it, possibly from being produced by sunrise the character designs on the other hand were extravagantly peculiar yet curiously appealing at the same time, adding forth to the series' bombastic randomness.

all in all we have yet to regret our decision of picking this one up for our summer watch, and besides, the series has proven itself so many times over of its capability to hold our interest in week after week without fail. well simply put, we highly recommend this series to those who haven't seen in yet, and we assure you that you will come to love it in no time :D
