MY POOR DEAR TSUGUMI-CHAN.
what-a-hilarious-way-to-end-a-show. as expected from the man who get sacked from the lucky star production team for directing the epic 15 minutes [?] talk on food [ which choco cornet end is the head ? ]. i dunno why peeps keep moaning on how *bleep*y the cornet talk was when i myself find it to be amusingly engaging.
also it seems like the man [ director ] himself is still in miss of his previous show as can be seen from the brief cameo of both karaoke room no. 301 and the fab 4 from lucky star within the tenth episode of kannagi :3
...
okay back to kannagi >
so basically the show is a spiritual gattai between the aforementioned lucky star [ pop culture / otaku references and social criticism ] and spice and wolf [ a witty, mischievous, prideful god / deity and a seemingly normal male companion who tried his best to get accustom with the quirks of such uncanny partner ] which pokes fun on both cultural and social aspect [ to mention a few ] in a clever way much like lucky star did prior. for those who were only watching the show for its comedic punch [ and lols ] then ye may not came to learn much unless you pay enough attention to the witty satire and grasp whatever message it had hidden deep beneath the funny lines.
truth to be told it's been a while since i came to greatly enjoy a definitely-good watch in the likes of kannagi [ the closest in 2008 being shigofumi, mnemosyne and spice and wolf just to share a few ] and wif such a good execution and director in helm i can safely assume that the show is just as good as any kyo-ani produced ones, especially the godly suzumiya haruhi no yuutsu which also shares the exact same taste and atmosphere as kannagi.
interestingly i find most of the characters to be quite well developed, elaborated and expanded; from the too pure-pure-boy jin to the hulking shy daitetsu [ a pity they cut his karaoke part short in episode 10 D: ], tsugumi for example seems to have grown much from the just-your-typical-childhood-crush to a firm, strong lady as she was in the finale [ save for the surprise ecchi get at the end of the series, during which she runs off in tears ]. even the perverted takako and akiba were given their respective fine treatment despite being a minor focus within the plot.
story wise kannagi seems to mirror a bit of spice and wolf from my own perspective, not that much but the parallel between the two series is there, and i sincerely became delighted over the series' fine transition from a lighthearted satire / comedy to a heartwarming drama as the finale draw near. the scene which depicted oba-chan enlightening nagi over her lost past was simply inspiring.
nice development yes there is yet however i am still in crave for a definitive conclusion to the love triangle between the three female lead [ nagi, tsugumi, zange ]. eventhough jin's answer were already made obvious still i would love to see how he were to resolve the case face to face wif the other two [ tsugumi, zange ]. and i feel sorry for my dear tsugumi-chan for having to witness such an unsightly sight. tsugumi-chan, be strong ! :3
the OP was magnificent, eventhough i've stated it before that i wasn't quite up for it back then but after repeated play of the video somehow i came to kneel before its deliciousness, from haruka tomatsu's lovelicious vocals to the fluid dancing animation featured in the video. the bgm as well became another focus of my attention much enough to inspire me on hunting a copy of the ost to be enlisted into my personal winamp playlist :3
i have no regret in putting this series as my topmost priority over the still ongoing clannad -after story- :3 kotomi-chan gome gome v.v
p/s : kung fu-chan zange is awesome. as expected from my wife-would-be >///>
